Running Accomplishments:

- I did better than I hoped my first year of XC. Really I didn't know what to expect and looking back I'm proud of myself for reaching the level I did sophomore year.

-I broke five in the mile @ the Davis Invite Sophomore year

Freshman Year: I didn't run cross country because I didn't really know about it until well into the school year:( In track the first ever mile I ran at practice was a 7:13 (HA!) and I ended the season with a 5:38 PR. I really only ran the mile that year.

Sophomore Year: I started running XC with the first summer workouts. I built up mileage all summer and progressively got better. Once the season came in I PR'ed almost every race. I ended the season with a 17:27 at regions, which means I was splitting at about  5:48 miles, only ten seconds slower than my PR in the mile freshman year. I also got the Rookie of the Year award, along with Dakota. Track season, well, was track season. A lot of lovely drama and confusion but hopefully that is all over for next year because I really want to focus on being a competitor in my Region and at State. I ended the season with a 4:58 PR.

Junior Year: I had an awesome XC season. I built mileage all though the summer and pushed myself through the season. I was doing well, until my shins just got to painful to run through, and unfortunately that was the pretty much the end of my season. I took time off before Region and ran as hard as I could finishing 10. Once State came around, I decided that I would pull out of the race to give another one of our guys a shot at running. Right after State, I began cross training, and I cross trained all throughout the winter, until I got back to running about two weeks before indoor started. I struggled a bit during indoor to manage my shins, but I followed my training, got stronger, and strengthened myself enough where my shins no longer even bothered me. I was able to go through the entire outdoor season without injury and climbed to mileage I had never achieved. I was second in the 2 mile at Region and made State, where I PR'ed again. I couldn't be happier with my outdoor season because although I didn't quite reach the times I could have hoped for, I stayed 100% injury free and I can tell that I am stronger and ready to take on a summer of hard training.

Senior Year: I trained hard and consistently this summer, climbing to 100 mile weeks, and feeling strong while doing so. I stayed at high mileage all through the season, averaging 90 miles a week, and racing hard all the while. When it came time to taper, I saw just how much all those miles paid off, and  now I'm proud to say I'm a Region Champion, as well as top 10 in the state.I trained hard and consistently this summer, and it payed off. I am a different runner now than I was a year ago, staying completely away from injury, giving me confidence that my body can take all the hard training that is coming up. I trained hard and went into Footlocker excited, but I did not do nearly as well as I could have. But, my failure at Footlocker fueled me for the season, and I set some PR's during Indoor. My real step up though, was during outdoor. I improved all season, with some great highlights along the way. I ran well at Arcadia, racing three times and PR'ing by almost 40 seconds in a 3200 after having raced twice previously. I continued improving and working hard, and at the Davis Invite I finished third with a 4:14 1600. I then went on to finish 5th at State in the 1600, and 3rd in the 3200, a big improvement over my 10th place finish during Cross.  Despite knowing that I could have done better this year, I am very satisfied with how my season went. I made a big jump through hard work, and I learned so much about running and about myself. Now, I am proud to say that I have signed to BYU and will be running for one of the best teams in the NCAA! Go Cougars!

PM: I decided four days off was as much continuous break as I wanted, so I met up with Abigail and went for 6. We ran down 13th E from East, then one lap around Sugarhouse and back the same way. We averaged a decent pace, and as expected, I had the spotty runner pains from not running for a few days. Glad to get this run over with.

AM: This morning I went to the gym with my mom. I ran four miles on the treadmill while she did just about every machine in the gym. I may or may not go running before work later today.

PM: I was starting to get ready to go for my run about two hours before work, when I realized that it's my break right now! So instead, I watched two episodes of Breaking Bad on Netflix!

PM: I'm pretty sure I ran today. I can't remember whether it was 4 or 6, but I'm more confident in 6. I just did my usual loop around my neighborhood.

PM: I met up with Abigail and Ryan today. We decided to do Thunderbird/Flagpole, and then back along 1300 S. We finished to 9 on the track. It was a nice, chatty run!

PM: I cannot for the life of me remember what I did today. I don't even know whether I did it at home or at school... I'm sure it was between 6 and 8. It's sad how I can't remember a week back in my life.

PM: Natalie is back in Salt Lake for the holidays! So I met up with her for a run. I'm still really sick, but I don't want to take any more time off. While on the run, I was coughing and spitting every 10 meters, not to mention producing some gnarly luggies :/ To add to this, Nat and I did Shriners run for 6 miles, but I had to do Duel in the Pool at 4 pm so I cut the run off at five miles and went straight to Steiner. One of our team of four ended up not showing, so two of us had to pick up an extra length of the pool, as if two lengths wasn't tiring enough. While finishing the third leg, I coughed and took in some lovely chlorinated water. Something really weird happened in my lungs with it cause I was coughing for a solid ten minutes afterwards and the chlorine did not feel too hot on my throat >:( At least I didn't drown.

PM: We had a track meeting today. After the meeting, distance went for a run. We did Shriners again, and I was coughing nearly as badly as yesterday. Later, my fever came back :(

PM: Today I met Natalie and Ryan for a run. We did the Thunderbird run, but cut off the flagpole part, then went over to 1300 S and then down that to 1800 E, and then the usual route down to the school, where we added some to be at 9.I wasn't coughing nearly as much today, but my chest was burning from a mixture of the cold air/breathing harder. Later at home, I got a pounding headache, which is strange because I never just get a head ache. This cold has hit me hard:(

PM: After a day of burnt out teachers who obviously need winter break more than I do, Christmas movies, cake, soda, chips, pizza, and of course, Hot Cheetos, I met Bill, Dakota, Chris, Megan, and Sarah for a run. We ran up to the track, ran a mile of speed changes, then run up did the VA loop over to the cemetery, where we did a lap, then ran back to East and did a lap to get 6. I feel much better today. Let's hope I finally beat this cold.

Since Footlocker, I've done a lot of thinking about my performance at the race and so forth. I kept trying to figure out why it was that I did so badly and I was beginning to get really hung up on it. I realized during my time off that no matter how badly I did, it is in the past. It was simply a bad race in the cycle of good and bad races which all runners have. I pushed that out of my mind, and started to focus on getting back into the swing of things. This break was very helpful though. I was able to get a lot of college and scholarship stuff I had been putting off, I've been able to get ahead with homework, I have been getting very consistent 8+ hours of sleep at night (more of a luxury really... I got nearly 12 hours last night. Teehee), and most importantly, I was able to hang out with my friends after school! Hooray for being normal!

AM: Went to the gym to get in a run and some weights. Did four miles on the treadmill, then got in a bunch of different weights, after which I did some really good stretching on the mats. One of my goals for track season is to be more flexible. For now, being able to touch my toes seems like an attainable start. I would like to run later, but I might be a little too busy.

AM: I want to ease back into the mileage. Taking some time off was good for me, but now I have to make sure I don't rush into the mileage. So since I normally do 10 on Sunday mornings, 5 seemed appropriate.

I slept in and didn't get my run in early, and the rest of the day just got busier and busier. Plus I had to work today >:/ So I never got my run in. Poop. And to top it off, tomorrow's Christmas so it's doubtful I will be able to get a run in.

Well, just as I anticipated, I didn't get a chance for a run today. But that's okay. It's Christmas, and it was cold outside, so it was nice to just get to spend the day inside with the family. Merry Christmas everyone!

PM: I wanted to meet up with Natalie for a run, but my mom wouldn't let me drive anywhere because of the snow. So I just went on my own run. I did 8 miles in basically a rectangle around my area. Pretty uneventful, snowy run but I felt great afterwards!

AM: Today we had practice at the Oval. We did a four lap warm up, then some stretching, drills, planks, leg lifts, lunges, and then two more laps. The goal was to do a three mile tempo, but 11 laps was a nice number and it was slightly over three miles so we did that since we had no mile markers. We figured out that I was supposed to hit 1:38 laps to hit my goal pace which was 6 min pace. Chris and I stayed well under that per lap, and finished the 11 laps in like 17:10ish, so we were really fast on the tempo. Afterwards we did a 5 lap cool down to be at 22 laps, or ~6 miles.

AM: We had practice at the Oval again this morning. We did the same stuff before the workout as yesterday. Four laps, then stretching, drills, a bunch of core stuff, lunges, then two more laps. Then we changed shoes and started our speed workout. We did a timed mile, then 2 sets of 3X300. I hit 4:58 for the mile, but was dodging people left and right the whole time, so I figure I lost about 2-3 seconds there, at least. Then after a lap recovery, we did started the 300's. I hit 43 (way too fast), 48, 48, then a lap recovery, 48, 49, 47. Finally for cool down we did 6 laps plus a little extra to be at 25.43 laps, which is seven miles.

AM: I met Natalie at her house for a run this morning. We ran up to Foothill, then over to and up Wakara to Red Butte. We started the 35 minute tempo that she had to do there. We went across the U campus to JCC, then up the Popperton trail head. We ran to the firestation, turned and went down death hill, and then along 1300 E until we finished the tempo. We averaged 6:28 for the tempo and I had fun pushing her:) We finished right in the middle of 900 S and 1300 S, so we ran back to 900 S and up to 1500 E, where we weaved back to her house. We had to add a tiny bit back at her house, where we saw Olivia and Camille standing on the corner just having finished their run, so they finished the last little bit with us. Then, after months of saying we would, we finally went to Panda! :D

AM: I intended to do my usual Sunday 10 miler this morning, but my left achilles is crazy sore from yesterday and speed the day before. I gave it the first three miles of the run to warm up, but it was just hurting more, so I cut off my run at the half and called it good. I iced my achilles right after I finished.

I woke up this morning and my achilles was still way sore, so that and the culmination of all the other things on going today, was enough for me to take a day off. I iced my achilles in the morning and later in the afternoon. If it feels better tomorrow, I know it will just be some prolonged soreness and I can just run through that.

I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. All the college apps are done. I finished the last parts of them this morning. I am cutting it close seeing as the deadline is 11:59 PM EST, or 9:59 PM here. (At least I was productive with my time spent not running:) Now I just get to wait for three long months. I will know my future at the end of March.

Plus, I had the most amazing New Years Eve ever! ;)
